GREASE - Das Musical
02.03.2012 - 04.03.2012
The cult musical with one of the world’s most endearing Rock´n´Roll love stories reaches 40!

A colourful, fun musical featuring petticoats and parties, pony tails and horsepower, Cadillacs and rebellion and, of course, love, with the fanastic sound of unforgettable hits including 'You’re The One That I Want', 'Grease Is The Word', 'Summer Nights' and 'Sandy' – THAT' S GREASE!
Forty years ago, GREASE hit the stage for the first time in Chicago and today it is still considered to be one of the world's most popular musicals. The highly successful director, David Gilmore, has been engaged to re-work the musical for the current jubilee tour specifically for the German-speaking region.
In the 90s, his production of GREASE triggered a true GREASE revival in London's West End and in Great Britain, where performances were held almost without interruption, and it was equally acclaimed both by audiences and the media. This production of GREASE is still considered one of the most successful ever.
"This new production of GREASE and the highly dedicated cast will, without doubt, enthrall its audiences!“ said Gilmore with conviction. And he was quite right. At its première in Germany in Dusseldorf's Capitol Theatre on 18 November 2010, the musical immediately had both the public and the critics on its side: "With his production, Gilmore has brought a musical on stage that offers two hours of excellent entertainment and which is not in any way out of date. Even the music of this excursion into the 50s is totally convincing from the first minute to the last “, concluded the Westdeutsche Zeitung. The Neue Rhein Zeitung stated: "Operation Petticoat successful: storming applause for a spirited and colourful production of GREASE!"
GREASE - it is pure dynamite how freaked-out teenage excitement is transformed into fast-moving choreography, how pointed dialogue and sentimental songs are translated. Parties, fun and romance. It immediately becomes obvious that even today both the longing for one's first love and the accompanying excitement have not changed and it is invigorating to experience how the production of this first 'High School Musical' comes alive, brilliantly accompanied by the furious Rock'n Roll and DooWop sound of the 50s.
The leading members of the brand new GREASE cast of 25 artist are Joana Fee-Würz ('Sandy') who just recently enthused her audiences as Hexe Glinda in 'Wicked - Die Hexen von Oz' and Lars Redlich ('Danny'), well known from his convincing performance in 'Mamma Mia!'.
These two are the new dream pair of GREASE, of this romantic-sentimental, wonderful tongue-in-cheek, energy-charged, and high-speed musical.
The history:
The musical is equally as unique as its success story. When the authors of GREASE, Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs, created their crazy idea one beery night in the 70s, they certainly had no idea what it would become. The love story of cool Danny and the timid Sandy who, after a holiday flirt, meet again under different conditions at Rydell High School at the beginning of term, turned out to become one of the most heart-rending high school romances.
The first five-hour production went on stage in Chicago in 1971, and from 1972 on, it ran for 7 1/2 years on Broadway to sold-out theatres 3388 times and has become one of the most successful musicals of all times.
The musical's legendary screen adaptation in 1978, in which John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as the new Hollywood dream pair sang themselves into the hearts of audiences worldwide, with cool songs and romantic ballads, ultimately made GREASE to what it is today. The film's sound track topped the US charts for 12 weeks, and until February 1998, it made the top five of the US charts for 244 consecutive weeks.
With their Rock'n Roll musical of an adventurous high school love story in the 50s, Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs created an absolute classic which rightly became the role-model for other high school musicals. It has reached timeless cult status and it is impossible to envisage world stages without it.
It is the best proof that not much has changed in school yard romances ...
